Ogden Bolton Jr of Canton, Ohio, was an American inventor with a vision of future mobility. Ogden’s mission was to create a perfect commuting machine. Like us, he saw a demand and future for electric bikes.
Meet Ogden Bolton Jr
On 31st December 1895 Ogden Bolton Jr. registered his patent for the first ever electric bicycle. Ogden’s design of e-bike featured electric motor fitted in the rear wheel hub and central mounted battery. The battery was placed under the horizontal tube of the frame. There was no gearing system and no cranks with pedals.
The electric motor designed by Ogden was very innovative in his times.
His electric motor invention was a DC motor with 6 poles, it could take up to 100 amps from a 10 volt battery.
